Ladies Rock Camp Orange County is a volunteer run sliding-scale 2 day music and workshop program designed to help women 18 and up rock out! We recognize that the same traditions that kept women from playing music as young girls hurt grown women.
Many women have not been given the option to learn to play instruments or learn to write songs; because of this we are passionate about teaching women everything they want to know about music in a safe, nonjudgmental environment.
Women play music while taking control of their narratives, make new friends in an environment where female collaboration replaces cattiness, learn technical skills like song writing and screen printing, and engage in critical conversations and panels.
Ladies Rock Camp is a small camp, usually no more than 25 campers. Ladies Rock Camp is open to women and gender non-conforming adults ages 18 and over. In order to attend camp, all campers must commit to being at camp both days for the full day. We do not admit campers who cannot be a full time camper. Camp days are Saturday and Sunday.
All campers will learn an instrument at camp. On your application, you will have the opportunity to select various instruments that you have an interest in learning or playing. No musical experience is necessary, we provide all instruction and music gear!
On the first day of camp, campers will form bands with fellow campers. Each band will come up with a band name, logo, song, and will make band t-shirts. Bands will have a coach that will help them write their song during band practice.
Each band will collectively write an original song that they will preform at the showcase.
Over the weekend, campers will participate in a couple workshops. Some of the weekend workshops may include making band t-shirts, taking band photos, self defense, attending a panel on gender and identity, and anti-bullying and being an ally.
Sunday evening after camp, all camper bands will play a show for family and friends! The showcase is all ages, so children are welcome. It is also open to the public! Tickets are sliding scale up to $20
"Ladies Rock Camp was such a breath of fresh air; a forum where I could try something I always wanted to do in a safe and supportive environment, surrounded by awesome, fun women! I have never come away from anything with such a feeling of love and empowerment as I did that weekend. Ladies Rock Camp ROCKS!"
"I went to LRC not knowing how to play the drums and came out of it loving the drums and continue to play 2 years later. I love the community/family love of this organization. I've made so many dear friends here. I dearly love this organization!"
